The Summer Set - Last First Kiss
A twangy number we wrote in Nashville and subsequently recorded with our friend Cory Spotts at home last May. This song was only officially released as a bonus track on the Australian/New Zealand version of “Everything’s Fine,” but you can stream it right here, hope you enjoy it!
<3 Your friendly neighborhood Summer Set.
this is an idea i’ve been kind of putting together lately.
a music time capsule. put in every song from your past, something that you reminds you of a great memory like a first date with a girl or the first snowfall of winter and throw it into a box. whole albums, burned cd’s anything.
done? i’m sure this is a fairly long process.
now, go to your iTunes and delete all of your songs.
i haven’t done this yet but i think i’m going to. and just start listening to anything new.
make new memories with new music instead of looking back on old ones.
music to me is like a familiar scent. the smell of homemade chocolate chip cookies my mom would make on the weekends when we were living in monticello and i was going to pinewood elementary. the smell of dew on the grass when i walked to the bus stop.
music acts as a very similar trigger. the song that played in the car when i kissed you for the first time. the blaring pop punk that bounced off the interior of my car and out the rolled down windows of main street in alexandria on my way to the ballpark for work.
I want these memories to be entrusted in these notes and rhythms to help me remember those minute details down the road and i want to grow as a person. so, I am going to make a sort of music time capsule for myself. throw some cd’s in a box, maybe write down a playlist or two on a scrap of paper and seal it up. i may not go to the extremes right away of deleting all my music but i really want to start to broaden my musical horizons a bit.
any suggestions are welcome.
here’s a live music video i shot and cut together from the HTL show a few weeks back.
